Dr Eileen Culloty from EDMO Ireland and Edel Coffey from Hope and Courage led a session on media and technology at Maynooth University’s event “Emancipatory Politics in Ireland during Far-Right Times”.
Organised by Barry Cannon, the event brought together different stakeholders to examine the influence of the far-right and responses. The keynote was delivered by Aaron Winter who spoke about “Liberalism’s Shadow”, which investigates how extremist discourse has affected racialised minorities, asylum seekers, refugees, LGBTQI+, women’s rights and working class communities during the 2024/25 electoral cycle in Ireland.
Dr Culloty’s contribution reflected EDMO Ireland’s commitment to examining the media dynamics that underpin social and political change.
