Ricardo Castellini da Silva has been shortlisted for a Media Literacy Ireland (MLI) Award in the category of Best Community-based Media Literacy Initiative. This recognition highlights Ricardo’s exceptional contributions to the development and promotion of EDMO Ireland’s Workshop in a Box, a resource designed to empower educators in delivering impactful media literacy workshops.

Developed as part of EDMO Ireland’s commitment to supporting Media Literacy Ireland’s Be Media Smart campaign, the Workshop in a Box is a versatile toolkit aimed at equipping teachers, librarians, community leaders, and other educators with the materials and guidance needed to host engaging workshops. These sessions help participants explore critical topics such as navigating digital media content and understanding and combating disinformation. This initiative underscores EDMO Ireland’s dedication to fostering informed digital citizenship and empowering communities to make better choices about the media they consume and share.

Media Literacy Ireland (MLI) is an informal alliance of more than 250 individuals and organizations, supported by Coimisiún na Meán. Members come from diverse sectors and collaborate to promote media literacy across Ireland. The MLI Awards celebrate initiatives that inspire informed engagement with media content and services, whether through training, resources, campaigns, or research.

Ricardo’s nomination in this category reflects the community-driven focus of the Workshop in a Box. By tailoring the resource for accessibility and adaptability, Ricardo and the EDMO Ireland team have ensured it serves the unique needs of various communities across Ireland. The winners of the MLI Awards will be announced today, November 21, 2024, at a ceremony hosted at Virgin Media studios.
