EDMO Ireland’s Martina Chapman participated in a two-day workshop on LEADER and Social Resilience, organised by the EU CAP Network in Kaunas, Lithuania, on 16 and 17 June.
The event gathered Local Action Groups and rural stakeholders to explore how rural communities can use LEADER to address climate risks, migration, and crisis preparedness.
Chapman took part in an interactive World Café session examining what works, what does not, and what is missing for improving social resilience, crisis preparedness, and crisis responses in rural areas. The session featured stations hosted by experts and Local Action Group representatives on climate crisis and extreme weather events, security and civil defence, migration and displacement, and disinformation and media literacy.
Chapman co-hosted the disinformation and media literacy station alongside Catherine Lane of Media Literacy Ireland. The wider EDMO network was also represented by Paolo Cesarini at the event.
The workshop underlined the growing recognition of disinformation as a challenge for rural communities, particularly in the context of crisis response and social cohesion.
