Aidan O’Brien from EDMO Ireland spoke at the EDMO BELUX 2.0: Countering Disinformation, Raising Democratic Resilience conference, held at the Brussels Institute for Advanced Studies on Tuesday, September 7th.

O’Brien participated in the closing policy panel, “Digital Services Action: What if We Actually Enforced the DSA?”, moderated by Joe McNamee, Senior Policy Expert at EU DisinfoLab. The panel also featured Nikos Sarris, Senior Researcher at the Multimedia Knowledge and Social Media Analytics Laboratory, and Daniela Alvarado Rincón, Policy Officer in DRI’s Digital Democracy unit. Together, they brought diverse perspectives to examine the challenges and opportunities surrounding the enforcement of the EU Digital Services Act.

This panel sought to clear some of the bottlenecks in the enforcement of the DSA. Speakers reflected on how researchers can access platform research data, discussed preliminary insights on how Digital Services Coordinators (DSCs) are fulfilling their mandates, and examined how civil society is taking platforms to court over violations of the DSA.
