Expanding the reach of EDMO Ireland’s Workshop in a Box

The Workshop in Box, a media literacy resource developed by EDMO Ireland for the national Be Media Smart campaign, has recently got an Irish version that is available on the Media Literacy Ireland website. The translation was organized by An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG), a government body linked to the Department of Education that coordinates the provision of learning resources in Irish and offers support services for gaelscoils, the Irish-medium schools in which all subjects are taught through the national language. Teachers in these schools have also been invited to participate in the training sessions offered by EDMO Ireland.

Beyond Ireland

The Workshop in a Box is also expected to be used by media literacy practitioners in other European countries. Last week, EDMO Ireland’s Media Literacy lead Dr Ricardo Castellini da Silva introduced the resource to media literacy teacher educators during a meeting of the TeaMLit network, a community of interest for both experienced and inexperienced teacher educators and trainers that aims to identify successful ‘best practice scenarios’ for up-skilling teachers’ media literacy and support the cross-border piloting of such scenarios. The main objective of the meeting was to showcase some media literacy resources available in different European countries so that participants could adapt and use them in their teaching practices in their own countries.

The workshop in a box is a copyright free resource that can be adapted and used in different contexts for diverse target audience. It is available for download on the Training and Development session of the Media Literacy Ireland website.
