Dr Eileen Culloty and Shane Murphy of EDMO Ireland presented their research on disinformation impacts on the NGO sector at the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) 2026 conference.

As part of the Political Participation and Social Media panel, they presented the paper “Assessing Digital Harms to Democracy: How Networked Disinformation Targets Civil Society and Drives Participatory Backsliding”.

The IAMCR 2026 conference took place in Galway and featured more than 400 parallel sessions organised by its Sections and Working Groups, alongside 12 special and partner sessions and three plenary sessions. The conference provided a major international platform for researchers to share findings on the most pressing issues in media and communication.
