On 04 July, Dr Eileen Culloty was invited to participate in an expert workshop at the Council of Europe. The workshop provided specialist insight into a draft strategic document on countering disinformation and promoting information integrity.
Dr Culloty contributed insights from her role as coordinator of EDMO Ireland and as a member of the working group that developed Ireland’s National Counter Disinformation Strategy. Her input reflected both national-level policy development and cross-European collaboration through EDMO.
The event was organised by the Steering Committee on Media and Information Society (CDMSI), which leads the Council of Europe’s work on freedom of expression, media, and digital governance. Operating under the authority of the Committee of Ministers, the CDMSI is guided by Council of Europe legal standards, the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, and recommendations from key monitoring bodies. It also addresses broader information society issues.
The draft document under review aims to consolidate and build on existing Council of Europe recommendations and instruments, offering actionable guidance to help member states translate these standards into national practice. Following expert input, the document will be reviewed and further developed in the coming months.
