The Be Online Smart campaign continues to raise awareness about the impact of recommendation algorithms on our online experience. Be Online Smart is an initiative by the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and its network of 14 national hubs.
On Tuesday, Dublin City University (DCU) introduced the campaign to participants in a media literacy workshop for librarians. The session also highlighted EDMO’s guidelines for effective media literacy. Librarians were attending as part of an EMIF-funded project project delivering a pilot training programme on media literacy for public librarians.

In Ireland, Be Online Smart is supported by Media Literacy Ireland, CyberSafe Kids, and WebWise, with a strong emphasis on understanding how algorithms shape the news we see, the content we consume, and the choices we make online.
