TheJournal.ie has launched a new website called Knowledge Bank to help readers in Ireland better understand complex and controversial news topics — and to recognise the tactics used in the spread of misinformation.

Available at factchecking.ie, the site offers explainers, myth-busting guides, and a practical toolkit with videos and tips on verifying images, spotting false claims, and finding reliable sources. The platform draws on insights from nearly a decade of fact-checking by TheJournal’s FactCheck team.

It focuses on six major themes — climate crisis, migration, society, elections, conflict, and public health — with resources that explore everything from carbon taxes and vaccine hesitancy to war propaganda and electoral disinformation. With billions set to vote globally in 2024 and 2025, and rising concern about online hoaxes, the Knowledge Bank aims to inform, empower, and protect democratic debate.
