The course, &#8220;Digital Media\u00a0Literacy: Build the Skills to Question What You See Online,&#8221; provides essential skills for students\u00a0navigating today&#8217;s digital information landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Developed by a cross-disciplinary team of academic staff,\u00a0library professionals, and students from Munster Technological University, with guidance from EDMO Ireland, the resource addresses the growing\u00a0need for media literacy skills in higher education. Funding for the project was provided by the National Forum for the\u00a0Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">EDMO Ireland provided guidance on the content and wrote on digital media, critical thinking, and media regulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"501\" src=\"https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Support-1024x501.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Support-1024x501.png 1024w, https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Support-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Support-768x376.png 768w, https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Support.png 1098w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The educational resource focuses on developing five key skill areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Understanding how media shapes information and how misinformation and disinformation are used to mislead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Recognizing the impact of algorithms, digital surveillance, and media ownership on information ecosystems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Evaluating source credibility through critical thinking and fact-checking skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Making informed decisions about media engagement through digital citizenship awareness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Reflecting on digital media habits and developing strategies for digital wellbeing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"799\" height=\"482\" src=\"https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Course-units.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Course-units.png 799w, https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Course-units-300x181.png 300w, https:\/\/edmohub.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Course-units-768x463.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The resource is designed to accommodate different learning styles and institutional needs. While learners can complete the course independently, it delivers maximum benefit when integrated into taught courses with opportunities for reflection and peer discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Because the resource is self-contained, it can be used by educators from diverse backgrounds across a variety of subject areas. The content can be extended to suit different disciplines through classroom-based activities and discussions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">An Open Education Resource<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">An <a href=\"https:\/\/cit.instructure.com\/courses\/154556\">external version of the course<\/a> that is hosted on Canvas.\u00a0Any individual can access the course on Canvas, but no data will be saved other than viewing numbers.
