Speaking ahead of a new binding online safety code due later this year, Mr Harris warned that company directors could be held personally responsible for harmful content hosted on their platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Eileen Culloty, co-ordinator of the EDMO Ireland Hub welcomed the shift away from self-regulation but cautioned that enforcement remains a challenge. \u201cWe\u2019re moving from an age of self-regulation to co-regulation,\u201d she said, referencing the EU\u2019s Digital Services Act (DSA), which obliges platforms to provide mechanisms for reporting illegal content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Culloty noted that while Ireland cannot act unilaterally under EU law, it can play a key role in pushing for tougher standards through its regulator, Coimisi\u00fan na Me\u00e1n.
